We hike with some travelers we meet in Baishuitai, climbing a steep path up a thickly forested mountain.

The trail is unrelentingly steep, but pretty.

There are a lot of rhododendrons growing here, just like the forest back in Washington State

We're now at a height of 3,800 meters (12,500 ft). There are still lots of big trees, but we can see rugged peaks rising above the treeline higher up.

Since the cabins have no chimneys, the smoke from the cook-fire escapes through the cracks between the logs.
